Standard Level - Year 1

A bdeyah, bdeyah, bdeyah, that's all folks. Come in Monday or Tuesday afternoon if you want some help reviewing for your final - or better yet, come in together and study in my room! Here is a link to the Final Exam Study Guide - with markscheme that I handed out in class. You can also look back over previous tests and problem sets. I have summarized the main ideas below. Don't forget to turn in your textbooks on the day of the final (H&H, and Exeter 2 & 3). Good luck on your finals and have a wonderful summer. See you next year!

SL 1 Assignments: Week of 5/14/12

Wed 5/23: Math Final Exam 8:30-10am Big Room
Don't forget to have a copy of your Formula Sheet for your exam.

Some direction for your studying: Since we have recently worked on quadratics and binomials, these will not be stressed on the final. There are 10 problems, 6 without a calculator and 4 with a calculator. There is one problem that involves quadratics (multi-part), 2 involving vectors (one basic, one multi-part), two involving matrices, two involving sequences, one involving logs, one involving exponentials, and one involving your calculator. Below is a summary of the ideas that we covered in each area.
Vectors:
Find a vector between two points
Calculate the length of a vector (2D and 3D)
Scale a vector to a given length
Write a vector equation of a line
Find the intersection of two vector lines
Show that two vectors are perpendicular (or not)
Find the angle between two vectors (use the dot product)
Interpret a vector equation of a line as an object moving along a line
Find the speed of an object moving along a line described by a vector equation
Use the angle between two vectors to identify components of the vector (use the dot product)
Matrices:
Manipulate and solve a matrix equation
Multiply matrices
Find the inverse of a 2x2 matrix
Find the determinant of a 2x2 or a 3x3 matrix
Know what makes a matrix singular and what that means. Solve problems involving this idea.
Exponents and Logs:
Manipulate and simplify exponential and logarithmic expressions
Solve exponential and logarithmic equations
Work with exponential growth and decay functions
Find the log with a base other than 10 or e
Series:
Find the common ratio of a geometric sequence
Find a given term in a geometric sequence
Find the sum of an infinite geometric series
Find the common difference of an arithmetic sequence
Find a given term in an arithmetic sequence
Find information about an arithmetic sequence given terms and/or sums
Functions:
Compose two functions
Find the inverse of a function
Identify the domain and range of a function and its inverse
Translate a function in the x and y directions directly or by a given vector
Scale a function in the x and y directions
Recognize a reflection of a function over the x or the y axis
Quadratics:
Manipulate quadratic equations into different forms
Graph quadratic equations from different forms
Find quadratic equations from a graph
Understand the use of the discriminant
Graphing calculator:
Graph an unfamiliar function
Solve an unfamiliar equation by graphing both sides and finding intersections
